چکیده

This paper presents an exact algorithm for the Lock Scheduling Problem (LSP) based on a Combinatorial Benders decomposition. LSP consists of three strongly interconnected sub problems: scheduling the lockages, assigning ships to chambers, and positioning the ships inside the chambers. These three sub problems are interpreted resp. as a scheduling, an assignment, and a packing problem. By combining the first two problems into a master problem and using the packing problem as a sub problem, a decomposition is achieved which can be solved efficiently using a Combinatorial Benders approach. First the master problem is solved, thereby sequencing the ships into a number of lockages. Next, for each lockage, a packing sub problem is solved to verify its feasibility, possibly returning a number of combinatorial inequalities (cuts) to the master problem. Experiments are conducted on generated real world instances. The results indicate that our decomposition approach significantly outperforms other exact approaches previously presented in literature.

Benders’ decomposition algorithm to solve bi-level bi-objective scheduling of aircrafts and gate assignment under uncertainty

Management and scheduling of flights and assignment of gates to aircraft play a significant role to improve the performance of the airport, due to the growing number of flights and decreasing the flight times. This research addresses the assignement and scheduling problem of runways and gates simultaneously. Moreover, this research is the first study that considers the constraint of unavailabil...

A Benders Decomposition Method to Solve an Integrated Logistics Network Designing Problem with Multiple Capacities

In this paper, a new model is proposed for the integrated logistics network designing problem. In many research papers in this area, it is assumed that there is only one option for the capacity of each facility in the network. However, this is not a realistic assumption because generally there may be many possible options for the capacity of the facility that is being established. Usually the c...

Combining Benders and Dantzig-Wolfe Decompositions for Online Stochastic Combinatorial Optimization

Online resource allocation problems are difficult because the operator must make irrevocable decisions rapidly and with limited (or nonexistent) information on future requests. We propose a mathematical-programming-based framework that takes into account all the available forecasts and the limited computational time. We combine Benders decomposition, which allows us to measure the expected futu...

A Benders\' Decomposition Based Solution Method for Solving User Equilibrium Problem: Deterministic and Stochastic Cases

The traffic assignment problem is one of the most important problems for analyzing and optimizing the transportation network to find optimal flows. This study presented a new formulation based on a generalized Benders' decomposition approach to solve its important part, i.e. user equilibrium problems, in deterministic and stochastic cases. The new approach decomposed the problem into a master p...

Scenario-based modeling for multiple allocation hub location problem under disruption risk: multiple cuts Benders decomposition approach

The hub location problem arises in a variety of domains such as transportation and telecommunication systems. In many real-world situations, hub facilities are subject to disruption. This paper deals with the multiple allocation hub location problem in the presence of facilities failure. To model the problem, a two-stage stochastic formulation is developed. In the proposed model, the number of ...
